VCI Announces Zonal Tournament for India Over-50’s World Cup Selection

Veterans Cricket India (VCI) is thrilled to announce the Third National Zonal 45 over-a-side Tournament, which will be held in Delhi from 21st to 27th October 2024. This pivotal tournament will play a decisive role in selecting India’s squad for the upcoming Over-50 Cricket World Cup (WC25), scheduled for February 2025 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
As a prestigious platform for seasoned cricket players, VCI has consistently worked towards nurturing the competitive spirit of veteran cricket across India. This Zonal Tournament will see top players in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s competing for a chance to represent India on the international stage.
Founded by former first-class professional cricketers, VCI draws inspiration from veteran cricket boards worldwide. With the backing of the Macwise Group, it is able to enhance its marketing and global tournament execution. The synergy between VCI and Macwise Group ensures that Indian cricket veterans have the opportunity to showcase their talents, not just domestically but across the world.
The Zonal Tournament will feature top players from different parts of India, with scouts and selectors closely monitoring performances. Following the tournament, 18-24 players will be shortlisted for an intensive training and fitness session on 27 October. This session will feature fitness tests focusing on agility, endurance, and strength to simulate match conditions. Only players who pass these rigorous tests will be considered for the final 14-16 player squad, which will be announced in mid-November.
- Performance: Thorough review of performance metrics (batting average, bowling economy, and fielding efficiency) and competitive participation as recorded in Cric Heroes during the state/zonal/national matches.
- Criteria: Current season performance, consistency, and impact in recent games.
- Assessment: Analysis of recent match footage and statistics in the months preceding WC25.
- Fitness: Comprehensive fitness tests will be conducted regularly following the initial squad selection in October 2025.
- Availability: Availability to play multiple matches as a team within India and outside India with competitive sides before the World Cup.
